Week 15

An innovated way to give feedback

The topic for this week has really called my attention especially because I have already lived the experience to have personal feedback through the technology and with the usage of the computer. In my opinion, this is a good method to get closer to the student to explain the details about their   evaluations.

In addition, it is important to take into a consideration that giving feedback through the technology might take more time for the teacher to be recorder and explain little by little the reasons why the students have a specific grade. However, with this methology  teachers will evoke any doubt or complain from the students at the time to receive their evaluation results, also it will help to the student to be clear on specific point in their task, and  even though teachers might have different manners to give feedback this would be the most appropriate way to do or to  release comments for the students . In fact, I hold the opinion that giving personal feedback to students through a video or through a recorded voiced can make students to have a better simplification of their performance, especially because the teacher is the one who is taking the time to explain systematically the results, evoking just giving feedback by writing hand. So, If I have the opportunity to give personal feedback to my students I would chose for sure the metrology of the usage of the computer.

Week 14

Letting students to express in the classroom

My personal view about this topic is that letting students express themselves in the classroom is important because in that way teachers can easily identify the students who really have understood the topic, and the ones who really need to have a better clarification on it.  In addition, it helps teachers to make students to lose the embarrassed to speak in front of the class or simply tells others what they think about something.

However, the problem is that many teachers do not like to let students say what they think or what they have not understood, many of them just dedicate their time to talk and talk to the students without knowing if the they  are getting the idea or if the students are still bagging with doubts, or even  teachers might noticed that the  students’ face are confused,  and they still continue with the class as if nothing were happening  on students  learning process. When there are many strategies to use to make students  to participate in the classroom, such  as think pair  to share  which in  my opinion,  it would be  a good  way to make students to share their ideas and to make them feel comfortable enough to deliberate their thoughts. Moreover, Teachers may take an advantage to let students to release their opinions and discussions because at that time teachers can provide feedback to the students or help them to have a clear idea about any doubt. To conclude, it seems to me that letting students to participate in the classroom has many advantages.

The benefits of a project. ( Gabriela Orellana)

This article was very important for me because I learned a lot about this topic. the reading was of "Maximizing the Benefits of Project Work in Foreign Language Classrooms." The students learn according their experience and the environment help them because they develop their skills depending on real-life. Also, teacher guidance and teacher feedback is very neccesary to teach but the pupil too must put of their part like the responsibility and student engagement for achieve their goal. Moreover, the benefits of project work are big because students cope with the challenge of real life. Besides, it helps you to get familiar with the idiom and help S.s to develop their skills in different ways like speaking when they ask somes question and listening when they receive the answer or the personal feedback. Teacher are required to help students to look for the right information at the time to the researches. In my opinión, it is good to make a Project in the classroom because teacher can give feedback to students and support them at the time to creative their own ideas.

The importance of mobile user in the classroom (Gabriela Orellana)

I really like this Reading because was about using mobile phones in the second language classroom. since mobile phones are part of students’ everyday routines. Also, the phones are ideal tool to develop their skills like writing, listening, speaking and reading. Moreover, the article mention about some program that our can using in classes. the program might be notes, camera, the Voice Memo Recorder, the Text Messaging and others. Futhermore, the social networking like facebook twitter and  MySpace are sites that allow to create group of friends and they can meet, send messages, share pictures with the purpose to asking students to use English instead of their native language.Besides, other option to help our students is give them listenin material or reading material. For example, the students can record their voices while they read and in the next class, they can give the reflections that they made it. Additionally, this options are exelent to improve the learning process because the technology is very attractive to our students and they feel motivate. On the other hand, I like when the article are mention of possible problems when using mobile phones in the classroom because at the same time give the possible solutions. In my opinion, i would like to use Mobile phones in the language classroom because our goal is the success of our students.

Helping students improve their writing skill (Gabriela Orellana)

This Reading was very important and interesting because I didn't know this application and it draws my attention. The article is about Online Collaborative Writing Using Wikis and wiki is a website that allow you to improve the writting. Also, the students have the opportunity to use wiki in diferent ways like book reports, brainstorming wikis,poetry, school history wiki, exercise, class blogs  and planning a party or concert. Moreover, this website is very useful for teacher and students, they can create their wikis for free. Furthermore, wikis are easy to learn and use, the writting is a important skill in this a execellent oportunity to develop it. Besides, this is a good way to make students practice their writting skills, and teachers help students to improve their writtings giving them the steps that they need to follow to create their own ideas because it is not only let students do writtings task, but also to improve their writting skill is the way to monitoring them to do their task in a good way. Otherwise, there is another website which might be helpful for teachers to make students writting paragraphs and it is the blog.com, there students can write ideas about any topic using the steps that the teacher has given to them. In my opinion, this website is very interesting and I would like to apply in my classes because it may allow me to help my students.

Ways to improve their vocabulary ( Gabriela Orellana)

 This reading was very interesting because it is about vocabulary and I like this phrase that article say “Vocabulary is one of those things where the rich get richer.” by Dr. Eli Hinkel because is true, when the students know a lot of vocabulary they can be more communicative. Also, in this article shows six kind of the dictionaries to improve the vocabulary.They are Cambridge Learner’s, Cambridge Advanced Learner’s, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, Macmillan, Merriam-Webster Learner’s, and Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary each dictionary has their function. Moreover, online dictionary should have a corpus-based compilation of words, collocation guides, and word frequency data. Besides that, the technology is very useful for the students with their advances nowadays until in their cellphone can be use it. Additionally, it is really important to make students to improve their vocabulary in different  ways and we as futures teachers are required to look for the best websites to make students improve their vocabulary and Taking into an account different task to ask them to complete. To conclude, if the students know or learn a good vocabulary their can have a good comprehension when they read something and they can improve a lot in other skill like speaking because they will have a good fluently.

 Improve our writing and Reading skills ( Gabriela orellana)

This reading was very interesting for me because this skills are the most difficult things to do at the time to learn a new language. I like to know that technology is a big tool to teach second language, Also, it is very important to use the real learning environment because when students read books with wonderful pictures, they might imagine the story as it would be real, or as if they were living the story in real life. Moreover, teacher must avoid a lot of thing like when the students translate word by word to read or writting something. Futhermore, the internet offers some websites that allow students develop their reading and writting skills. in sites you can create letter to a friend, a formal letter, a biography, a description of a person, and a description of a book or film. besides, this site is very interesting www.marlo.com/card.htm because students can create a letter to a friend, it is a site where they can send free their letters, and they can find cards with animated pictures, accompanying music, etc. Indeed, pupils can practice both skills in this activity because they writting the letter and the other students reading and changed the roles.   

On the other hand, it is very important that teacher help students to overcoming their barriers because sometime they can not follow with their learning. 

To conclude, the technology is very useful for everybody because the majority has access internet and it is very necessary to know the ways to use the resource.

Teaching second foreign language with different tools (Gabriela orellana)

I really like this reading because is very important for us learn about our students. Technology and teaching techniques have been evolving rapidly in recent years and teacher must use all tools necessary to help their students to develop their skills. mechanical exercises and traditional fill in the blank, true or false and multiple choice assessments does not interest students. It is very different use other material, For example, videos for teaching listening skill, vocabulary.  Also, teachers can creative videos according their topic. Sometimes, students have the skill to learn through the visual, they remember more easily the topic. Moreover, speaking is other skill very important because pupils must to produce the language. In this case the technology has recourses to practice a lot. such as software where students can correct their mistakes, they learn to express without fear and they can have the opportunity to give their critical thinking. Also, speech recognition technology, 'the ability of a machine to process spoken input and respond, enables CALL software to include active participation in speech production, oral reading, and limited conversation in the range of language activities available to students. Having imitated models several times, the learners can actually record their own speech and compare this with the models. The program is able to detect significant deviation from a master's word phrase utterance production and offers visual aids and a written diagnosis of the problem as well as indications on how to overcome and correct the error.

 To conclude, teacher can use a lot of thing to creative a funny class and remember that we must have the attention of our students. They can learn easier if the topic is very interest for them.

This week article was very interesting and I really like it. It present information about how technology influence in many ways the critical thinking skills of learners.This article was by Ken Bain. Intrinsic is the abilities that students acquire along the learning´s process where learners acquire new knowledge in different way. Sometimes students feel nervous or afraid to express something because their opinion can be wrong. in this case the teacher must implement activities Where students say their own critical thinking do not matter if they are wrong because everybody think very different. Also,Teacher must creative with topics very interesting for them.However, I believe that students can use computers for learn to make analyze. Sometimes make analises is very complicated because not everyone has this ability.Moreover, In the internet they can find a lot of exercises to develop this skill, but the motivation is very important because teachers must help students to feel comfortable if teachers let students feel free to thinks and make análisis students wouldn't be afraid to express themselves. In conclusion, As future teachers we must change our methods and leave behind the traditionalism where only the teacher is right because the student can also express himself without any problem.in fact, what teachers do is to make students memorises things and just complete book without letting students having a critical thinking.

There are advantages and disadvantages to use the internet(Gabriela orellana)

I really like this Reading because it is very important for everybody. Moreover, The internet is very useful to students. The Reading are mentioned some important point about the internet. For example, the internet as tutor, it is interesting because there are a lot of sites offer lessons on english. Also, the sites help students to improve their vocabulary , grammar and other. Some traditional activities are gap-fill, multiple-choice and matching but, now there are more activities. For example, Free rice that help students in grammar. Furthermore, The internet as tool, you can have the opportunity to talk with native speakers or other learners. The pupil can commmunicate for social networking sites like Facebook, email, Skype and other. In my opinión, the use of the internet is good because the teacher do not spend money on materials. Besides, Students spend more time on a computer than in a book because they think that the interntet is everything like  their Second Life. On the other hand, the Internet has disadvantages. For example, Maybe that not everybody has internet in their houses so, if the teacher want to use the internet with students Will be kind of difficult.

Help students to develop their listening skill(Gabriela Orellana)

Developing the listening skill has been a big problem for the students during a lot of years, because they have not been taught how to improve their listening.  In fact, in the that teacher have helped them have been useless because teacher use old techniques such as cassettes and old audios to make them fill their book. In my opinion exist a lot of innovate material that can help. Such podcast, that method is very important because the students have the opportunity to communicate with other pupils. Also with this method students might be able to exercise their ear at the time to identify the key words, and difficult conversation to understand. Therefore, if one day  I get the opportunity to teach listening skill, I would like to teach it using the podcast instead of having my student’s wit boring with old listening’s audios. Furthermore, I consider that teachers have to change the way to teach and create their activity to teach the skills, because sometimes what they do    is not meaningful for the students. To conclude, using the new technology students have a different way to teach with an innovate way and we us futures teachers this will be a big help at the time to make our classes.

Strengths and weakness of our student(Gabriela Orellana)

I really like that Reading because it is very interesting. It is about the motivation in the students, they must become aware that learning depend on them, Students should recognize their strengths and weaknesses. Also, I like when one student stated: I can improve every day if I practice; or if I effort myself, because When the student has a goal, they can achieve it.  Moreover, Teachers can benefit greatly from technological advances to make their work more attractive and to be more efficient. Besides, Technology is very useful for students because they can practice their skills with the purpose of improving it. Reading has a purpose for students to do their self-assessment but to evaluate oneself is not easy, on the contrary, it is very complicated because you have to recognize the mistakes and work so that they do not happen again. Discovering what the areas to be improved are might a challenged for the students, In my opinion teachers should motivate the student to be successful because sometimes students do not have motivation of their family. They feel alone, and sometimes, the teacher must be a lot of roles in the life of the students What do you think?

I had never read anything about the computer, but I have previous knowledge about how useful technology is, because nowadays everyone uses the computer to do the tasks. When I started reading the article, I thought I was talking only about computers, the internet never imagined that it would focus much on the teaching area. The article mentions a lot of the work in pairs or groups that the student-student interaction is important but I do not want to say that the teacher is not important because the teacher has a great role. And I consider that the purpose of the article is to forget about the old methods like memorizing concepts, and to face the concept without practicing. It is now important for the student to feel motivated with the class. The majority of students spend on computers. Nowadays it is common for them to use programs to communicate or improve their language learning. In addition, with this reading we note that the students improve their abilities as in speaking because there are programs that can record the voice to see how well they are in the pronunciation another can be listening since there are many exercises that can be heard because there are voices Recordings that give the answers, and other skills.

In my opinion the teaching of languages is evolving because every time has more advantage although not everyone can have the opportunity to have a computer and have access to the internet but if this article as future teachers will help us greatly since we are knowledgeable about the variety Programs or activities we can do to improve language learning.
